Limiar — Small retreats

Retreats

Small, hosted retreats shaped around immersive sound, guided time in nature, shared meals and genuine space to rest.

A few dates each year. Small groups. Always personal.

Throughout the year, Limiar hosts a small number of carefully curated retreats. They are intentionally small, personally hosted and grounded in the particular character of the land: cork oaks, granite, open sky, quiet nights and the river landscapes of Central Portugal.

This autumn, Limiar is opening two intimate two-night retreats for a maximum of eight participants.

THE THRESHOLD

A practitioner preview weekend and a public autumn retreat

The Threshold weekends at Limiar bring together immersive sound, guided encounters with the land, shared food, small-group connection and time that is genuinely your own.

Autumn 2026 opens with two distinct weekends. The first, at the end of September, is a Practitioner Preview Weekend for yoga teachers, sound practitioners and holistic facilitators. The second, at the end of October, is Into the Quiet, our public residential retreat.

The different elements are intentionally allowed to work together: your own place to withdraw, personal hospitality, walks among cork oaks, listening beside the river, simple meals around one table, carefully prepared sound experiences and long stretches in which nothing is required of you.

People often come to Limiar looking for quiet. What surprises them is how quickly the place, the welcome and the slower rhythm begin to change the quality of their attention.

Come for the quiet. Discover the place, the care and the depth behind it.

INTO THE QUIET

30 October – 1 November 2026

  • LATE AUTUMN EDITION
  • 2 NIGHTS / 3 DAYS
  • MAXIMUM 8 PARTICIPANTS

Over three days, sound journeys, time in nature, shared meals and simple moments of stillness create space to rest, listen and let the pace of ordinary life fall away.

Held at the threshold between October and November, the weekend carries the atmosphere of late autumn: warmth by the fire, darkening skies, quieter mornings and the closeness of a small group.

There is nothing to achieve and nowhere to perform. Only time to soften into silence, reconnect with the body and make room for what wants to emerge before winter.

Follow the season inward. Rest, listen and return to what matters.

Immersive sound

Gongs, crystal singing bowls, tuning forks and other acoustic instruments accompany the weekend, culminating in an extended Saturday evening Sound Journey. You rest and receive: there is nothing to perform and no particular state to achieve.

The land as part of the retreat

Slow walks, active listening, simple sensory practices and a Forest Council connect the experience to the cork oaks, river, granite and open sky. Nature is not simply the view from the accommodation: it is part of the experience.

Personal hospitality

With only eight participants, arrivals, meals and experiences remain intimate, flexible and personally hosted. The difference is not only being accommodated somewhere, but feeling genuinely received.

Your own space and time

Rest in your room, tiny house or tent. Sleep, read, walk, use the mini-jacuzzi when available, talk with others or do nothing. The unstructured time is an intentional part of the retreat.

A grounded, body-based approach

Simple body-based meditation and sensory-awareness practices are woven gently into the weekend. They support grounding, embodied presence and quiet attention without requiring previous experience or asking participants to perform in any particular way.

The approach is influenced by the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche — particularly basic goodness, embodied presence and the integration of meditation into everyday life — together with years of somatic meditation practice.

Meet Your Host

Personally hosted by the founder of Limiar.

Matteo Bonini Baraldi

Matteo Bonini Baraldi

Sound practitioner, retreat host and founder of Limiar

Matteo has worked with sound and meditation since 2017. He trained as a gong practitioner with Don Conreaux and Aidan McIntyre, and his approach is influenced by the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa and years of somatic meditation practice with Reggie Ray and Dharma Ocean.

His work is simple and grounded. Rather than focusing on performance or peak experiences, he creates spaces where people can slow down, reconnect with their bodies and settle into a quieter, more present state.

Alongside this work, Matteo has been developing a life closely connected to the land in Central Portugal, exploring permaculture, regenerative practices and a more direct relationship with nature. The environment itself plays an essential role in the retreats.

His role extends beyond facilitating sound and nature experiences. Matteo personally welcomes participants, hosts the weekend and creates the rhythm in which accommodation, food, conversation, silence and guided practices can work together.

Matteo speaks English, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese and welcomes an international group of participants.
